Why I Always Pack a Snackle Box for Family Trips

For years, our travel snacks lived in one giant, chaotic gallon bag. Everything mixed together, nothing sorted, and by hour three of a flight it was just a graveyard of crushed goldfish and loose trail mix at the bottom of my carry-on. Someone was always hungry, someone was always digging, and I was always the one being asked to find "the good snack" out of a bag I couldn't even see into.
One of my kids has ADHD, and sugar-heavy candy sends her in a direction I'd rather avoid mid-flight, so I've always had to be a little more intentional about what's actually in the bag, not just what's easy to grab. That's how I landed on the snackle box.
What a snackle box actually is
It's just a divided container, the kind you'd find in the tackle box or hardware aisle at the dollar store, packed with snacks instead of fishing lures. Every compartment holds something different, everything is visible at once, and nobody has to dig. Kids can see their options and pick for themselves, which cuts out a surprising amount of the "I don't want that" back and forth I used to get from a mystery snack bag.
What's actually in mine
Pistachios, oat and dark chocolate bites from Costco, trail mix, goldfish, Cheerios, and a couple of sugar-conscious sweet options so nobody feels left out. I lean on SmartSweets for that last part specifically because of the sugar difference: a serving runs around three to five grams of sugar, compared to something like 27 to 32 grams in a regular bag of gummy worms. That's the kind of swap that actually matters when you're managing a kid's sugar intake without making the whole trip feel restrictive.
On longer travel days I'll also throw in a couple of protein bars for the adults, since "hangry parent trying to wrangle a family through security" is its own category of vacation stress I'm actively trying to avoid.
This started as one line on a much bigger list
The snackle box is actually a callout on my full Ultimate Family Beach Packing List, right under Hydration, Snacks & Wellness. If you haven't grabbed the whole checklist yet, it covers everything else we pack, category by category.

If there's one thing you'll learn about me, it's that I love finding things that make life feel a little easier. Whether that's a travel essential, a parenting hack, a cozy self-care find, or something that simply makes me think, "Why didn't I know about this sooner?", I'm grateful you're here and I hope you found something helpful. Wishing you comfort, calm, and a little less overwhelm wherever life takes you.Ashley

Below is the full packing list, broken down by category so you can work through it section by section, or just skim for whatever you're missing. Wherever I've got a product I actually use and recommend, the item is clickable and will take you straight to my pick on Amazon — I'm still adding links as I go, so not everything is linked yet.
One thing I want to say up front: you do not need to pack every single item on this list. Nobody does. Think of this as a helpful starting point, not a mandate. Pull from it based on what actually makes sense for your family's life stage. If your kids are older, skip the swim vests and the airplane bed. If there's no pool where you're headed, skip the floaties. This is here to make the "what the heck do I even pack" spiral easier, not to give you one more thing you have to fully check off.
And if you'd rather have this whole thing as a printable to check off by hand, grab your free copy below before you dive in.

At the end of the day, none of this is really about the list. It's about getting out the door with a little less stress, so the trip itself can actually feel like a trip and not just a logistics project.
Because the part that actually matters is everything that happens after the packing is done — sandy toes, sunburned noses, someone begging for five more minutes in the water, the photo you didn't plan to take that ends up being your favorite one.
However much of this list you actually use, and however this trip goes, I hope it gives your family exactly what you're hoping for.
